Keeping students safe

The college subscribes to the holistic definition of safeguarding as given by the DfES guidance document Working together to Safeguard Children (2006): ‘Safeguarding is the process of protecting children from abuse or neglect, preventing impairment to their health and development, and ensuring they are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care that enables children to have optimum life chances and enter adulthood successfully’.

The college takes the safeguarding of students as a priority, evidenced by its Core Values:

  • Students’ experience is central
  • Individuals are valued and self esteem is promoted
  • Work as a team
  • Innovation, creativity and enjoyment are encouraged
  • We conduct ourselves with integrity and respect for all
  • We strive for excellence in everything

The college recognises that protecting and safeguarding young people is a shared responsibility and depends upon effective joint working between agencies and professionals that have different roles and expertise. We adhere to the procedural guidelines and definitions set out by the Hull and East Riding Local Safeguarding Children Boards.
